UN Supports Egyptian Efforts to Achieve Palestinian Reconciliation

United Nations coordinator in the Middle East Tor Wennesland stressed the need to permanently freeze Israel's plans for establishing settlement units.

According to the Russian news agency Sputnik, Wennesland said, during a briefing at the Security Council, that "the freezing of Israeli settlement units' plans must be permanent.

He added that "Israel, as an occupying power, must guarantee the safety of the Palestinians.

He stressed that the United Nations will continue to support Egypt's great efforts for achieving the Palestinian reconciliation.".
