The United Nations announced on Monday that it requires $4.2 billion in 2024 to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and the millions of refugees who have fled their country since the Russian invasion began nearly two years ago.

The UN called on the international community not to forget this conflict, which competes with other crises like those in Gaza and Sudan.

For humanitarian aid inside Ukraine, the UN is seeking donations amounting to $3.1 billion, compared to $3.9 billion secured in 2023, with 64% of it covered. The UN has decided to reduce the size of aid this year, focusing more on immediate needs.

The aid plan also aims to raise an additional $1.1 billion to assist 2.3 million Ukrainian refugees and the communities hosting them.

About 6.3 million people have fled Ukraine, primarily to European countries.

The UN noted that 14.6 million people will require humanitarian assistance in Ukraine this year, accounting for 40% of the population. Among these, 8.5 million are expected to be prioritized.

The UN official also pointed out that 60% of the United Nations' humanitarian partners in Ukraine are Ukrainian organizations, indicating the community and national spirit of many people in this country.
