The head of the International Organization for Migration’s mission in Sudan, Mohamed Rifaat, confirmed today, Sunday, that more than 107,000 people in Sudan were affected by floods in an unprecedented rainy season, especially since dams were damaged by military actions resulting from the war.
Rifaat said, “The humanitarian situation in Sudan has reached a difficult point, especially after the spread of the cholera epidemic that struck 12 states inside Sudan and caused a large number of deaths,” adding that there are 10.7 million displaced people inside Sudan, and more than 2.3 million displaced people outside Sudan, in light of the food shortage that has reached the point of starvation.
The UN official stressed that there is an urgent need to stop military actions and war in Sudan so that aid can be delivered to those in need in the affected areas, stressing that the warehouses of the International Organization for Migration have run out of shelter materials to accommodate the people.
