The United Nations (UN) Humanitarian Coordinator in Lebanon, Najat Rushdie, announced the allocation of $16 million to expand the humanitarian response in the country, whose 2.5 million people are in need of assistance.
A statement by the “Mission of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs” stated that Rushdie announced during meetings, she held with the Lebanese government, the allocation of $16 million through the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund to expand the humanitarian response in Lebanon.
The statement pointed out that a number of recent assessments indicate that 2.5 million people in Lebanon currently need some form of humanitarian assistance. This number includes vulnerable Lebanese, migrants, and Palestinian refugees in Lebanon as Lebanon hosts 1.5 million Syrian refugees in need.
