The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has confirmed that there are continuing serious challenges in receiving and delivering aid across Gaza, citing frequent delays, arbitrary checks and access restrictions imposed by Israeli authorities.
According to the United Nations, between May 1 and May 23, 31 relief missions were denied access and 40 were hampered, due to widespread delays, detention of aid workers, the firing of warning shots, and forced aborts of officially approved missions.
For its part, the United Nations World Food Program also warned that if food and humanitarian supplies do not begin entering Gaza in massive quantities, despair and hunger will spread.
