Amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel's Occupation Forces and Gaza, the United Nations has expressed its willingness to deploy a police force in Gaza.
Speaking to media representatives at the organization's headquarters in New York, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the UN Deputy Secretary-General for Peace Operations said that the UN is prepared to respond to any request from Member States to send a police force to Gaza, emphasizing the importance of assisting competent authorities during this crisis.
Lacroix also highlighted the significant challenges faced in distributing humanitarian aid in Gaza, including an alarming rise in incidents of looting. He stressed the urgent need to address these issues and proposed the involvement of a neutral third party to help alleviate tensions and facilitate the delivery of aid.
Acknowledging the complexities involved, Lacroix mentioned that deploying a UN peacekeeping force would require procedural steps involving the UN Security Council.
It is worth to note that the war, which commenced on October 7, 2023, has caused immense devastation in Gaza, resulting in a humanitarian catastrophe with a high number of civilian casualties, particularly among women and children.
