A United Nations Human Rights Council expert committee has recommended an arms embargo on Israel, highlighting that the provision of arms to the nation contravenes international human rights laws.

Reports from Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth cite committee members pointing out indications of Israel's violations of humanitarian law.

Josep Borrell, the European Union Foreign Policy Chief, earlier in the month, subtly suggested that the United States should reassess its military support for Israel due to the significant number of civilian casualties in the Gaza conflict.

Borrell referenced remarks by US President Joe Biden about Israel's reaction to the Hamas attack on October 7 being excessively forceful.

Following a European Union Development Ministers meeting in Brussels, Borrell emphasized the potential need to diminish weapon supplies to mitigate the extensive loss of lives.

He also expressed strong disapproval of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's approach in Brussels, noting Netanyahu's apparent disregard for international appeals for more substantial efforts to safeguard civilians.

Borrell, visibly frustrated and emotional, questioned the threshold for excessive casualties and the criteria used to determine this.
