UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed deep concern about the escalation and ongoing Israeli aggression against Lebanon in the past 24 hours. He called for the region to be spared the dangers of a full-scale war.
The UN Information Center reported on Sunday that Guterres emphasized the urgent need to stop this cycle of violence and urged all parties to step back from the brink, stating that the people of the region cannot endure the outbreak of a full-scale war.
The Secretary-General also urged all parties to fully recommit to implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and to immediately return to a cessation of hostilities. He renewed his call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all hostages held there.
