Andrea De Dominicis, the United Nations' humanitarian coordinator for the Palestinian territories announced on Wednesday that the UN will issue an appeal to raise $2.8 billion to assist Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank throughout 2024.

the UN coordinator stated in a video press conference that the UN will launch the appeal to donors until the end of the year.

He confirmed that they are seeking $2.8 billion to assist three million people identified in the West Bank and Gaza.

He added that ninety percent of the amount is designated for Gaza, explaining that the humanitarian plan for 2024 was initially estimated at four billion dollars but was reduced to $2.8 billion due to the difficulty of delivering humanitarian aid.

Just a few days after Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7th and the start of Israel's retaliatory response in the Gaza Strip, the UN issued an urgent appeal to raise $294 million.

The appeal was adjusted at the beginning of November to increase to $1.2 billion to meet the most urgent needs of nearly 2.7 million people in the Palestinian territories (2.2 million in Gaza and 500,000 in the West Bank) for the period extending until the end of 2023.
