Today, Saturday, the United Nations (UN) announced the launching of "preliminary" consultations for a comprehensive political process between the Sudanese parties.

The United Nations said in a statement: "The Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Head of UNITAMS, Volker Peretz, in consultation with Sudanese and international partners, officially launches the initial consultations for a political process between the Sudanese parties."

The statement added: "The United Nations is facilitating (consultations) with the aim of supporting Sudanese parties to reach an agreement to end the current political impasse and agree on a sustainable path of progress towards democracy and peace."

For his part, Volker Peretz expressed his grave concern that the current political stalemate in Sudan will lead the country to slip into more instability and waste the political, social, and economic gains that have been achieved since the revolution in Sudan.

UNITAMS was established by Security Council Resolution 2524, in response to the request of the Sudanese leadership in February 2020, to support a peaceful democratic transition in Sudan.

The Sudanese Doctors Committee recorded 239 injuries as a result of the protests against the military rule that the country is witnessing recently.

The total number of injuries in the capital, Khartoum, reached 150, and 25 injuries were recorded in Omdurman and its localities, 61 injuries in Bahri and its localities, and 3 injuries in the city of Madani.

The committee said in its statement yesterday, Friday, that there are injuries in the field that were treated by field aid teams, and they are not included in this list.

The committee indicated that any other injuries that occurred in the regions are being investigated, and an update will be published if confirmed.
