The Queen and Prince Philip have reportedly ended four months of lockdown as the royal couple have left the Windsor Castle and flew to Balmoral, Scotland for their summer holiday.

The royal couple spent the lockdown at the Castle, before they were driven to RAF Northolt in London today, where they then boarded a plane heading to the 50,000-acre Aberdeenshire estate, where they are expected to stay until at least September.

In photos circulated by British media, the Queen, 94, Duke of Edinburgh, 99,  sat side by side in the car, and the Queen had her trademark black handbag resting on her lap.

"They will be joined by what's been dubbed their 'Balmoral Bubble', a small team of key staff who will look after them during their stay," Mirror wrote.

The Queen was whisked away from Buckingham Palace in mid-March, shortly before the UK was placed into lockdown and people were told not to leave their homes.

Speaking at the time, a source said: "She is in good health but it was thought best to move her. A lot of her staff are a bit panicky over coronavirus.

"The Queen has met a lot of people there until recently. But she is weeks away from her 94th birthday and advisers believe it is best to get her out of harm’s way.. Buckingham Palace is in the middle of London and also has a bigger staff than other estates so is deemed a much more dangerous location," the source added.

“There have been no specific scares or positive tests there yet but no one wants to take any chances.”

Like the rest of the family, the Queen has been working from home during the lockdown and has carried out a number of engagements virtually.

According to the 'Mirror', She's been taught how to use video calls in order to keep in touch with politicians and advisors.

She's also delivered a speech to the public, offering support and comfort during the peak of the lockdown.

She recorded the message in Windsor Castle's White Drawing Room, with just one camera operator who was dressed in full protective equipment.
