Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko and his German counterpart, Christian Lindner, signed an intergovernmental agreement on providing Ukraine with EUR 1 billion in grant funding.

In a statement, the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance said that the funds will be directed to the Ukrainian state budget to finance priority social and humanitarian expenditures amid martial law.

It is worth mentioning that the funds would be sent to Ukraine through the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s Managed Account Mechanism.

Ukraine has received more than $6 billion in foreign aid, in the form of grants and loans, since the beginning of the war on February 24.

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that his country would send modern anti-aircraft missiles and radar systems.

Olaf announced in the German parliament that the country also will support the US sending multiple launch rocket systems to Ukraine.

According to Scholz, Berlin will provide IRIS-T missiles, the most modern system that Germany currently possesses.

The system would “enable Ukraine to protect an entire major city from Russian air raids,” he said.

Ukraine has long demanded anti-aircraft systems to protect itself from attacks by Russian fighters, helicopters, missiles, or drones.

Immediately after the start of the war, The German government decided to send German-made weapons for the first time against nuclear power, as it sent Bazookas, anti-aircraft missiles, and millions of bullets to Ukraine.

In the past weeks, the government pledged to deliver to Ukraine 50 “Gibbard” anti-aircraft tanks and 7 self-propelled howitzers, which are modern guns with a range of 40 km.
