UK Government: ‘All Options on the Table’ Over U.S. Tariffs

The British government has warned that “all options remain on the table” in response to newly imposed U.S. tariffs, signaling it is prepared to take action if negotiations with Washington fail to safeguard UK economic interests.

A spokesperson for the UK government said London is closely assessing the impact of the measures introduced by the administration of President Donald Trump, stressing that ministers are engaged in ongoing talks with their American counterparts.

While officials emphasized that dialogue remains the preferred route, they made clear that the government would not hesitate to respond if British industries are adversely affected.

“We are continuing discussions with the United States and remain committed to securing the best possible outcome for UK businesses. All options are on the table,” the spokesperson said.

The tariff dispute has raised concerns among British exporters, particularly in sectors such as automotive, steel and consumer goods, which could face increased costs and reduced competitiveness in the U.S. market.

The United Kingdom and the United States have been working to strengthen post-Brexit trade ties in recent years. However, the latest tariff measures risk straining that progress and creating uncertainty for companies operating across the Atlantic.

Industry groups have urged both governments to avoid escalation and provide clarity to markets, warning that prolonged trade tensions could weigh on investment and employment.

As negotiations continue, the British government faces mounting pressure to balance diplomatic engagement with a firm defense of domestic economic interests, amid an increasingly volatile global trade environment.
