The British Ambassador to Egypt, Gareth Bayley, visited the Cairo Monorail, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Transport for Railways Wagdy Radwan, Chairman of the National Authority for Tunnels.
The British Embassy in Cairo stated - in a statement Wednesday - that during the visit, ways to enhance trade relations between the two countries and support Egypt's ambitions to expand the public transport network were discussed; as an environmentally friendly solution to reduce pollution and traffic congestion in Greater Cairo.
The embassy explained that the monorail cars were manufactured by a leading British company, noting that the United Kingdom contributed to financing the project with about $2.5 billion.
It indicated that this project is a great example of the growing trade cooperation between Egypt and the United Kingdom.
The British Embassy added that trade cooperation between Egypt and the United Kingdom is constantly developing, as the volume of trade exchange between the two sides last year 2023 amounted to about $4.7 billion, stressing that Egypt has become one of the fastest growing trade partners for the United Kingdom.
