People in England with coronavirus will no longer be legally required to self-isolate from late February, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced Wednesday.

Johnson proposed to speed up existing plans to live with the virus.

The prime minister ended almost all restrictions in England last July and last month lifted "Plan B" measures that had been temporarily imposed to slow down the spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

He shared his wishes to go further as part of the shift towards learning to live with the virus.

During Prime Minister's Questions, Johnson noted if the current encouraging trends in the data continue then the country will be able to end the last remaining domestic restrictions, including the legal requirement to self-isolate if you test positive, a full month early.

Britain is also planning to drop the requirement for vaccinated travelers arriving in the country to take a coronavirus test on Friday. The remaining travel restrictions would be addressed on February 21.

Britain has recorded nearly 160,000 deaths from coronavirus in the past two years.
