UfM Secretary-General Reappointed for 2nd Three-Year Term

Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Secretary-General Nasser Kamel has been reappointed for a second 3-year term. 

 

In press remarks, Kamel said that his reappointment for 2nd term reflects the great confidence enjoyed by Egypt in the Euro-Mediterranean region and its leading role in enhancing security and stability in its surroundings.

 

He added that Egypt has become a role model among the countries of the region, as it takes firm steps towards sustainable development and has succeeded in achieving economic reforms and implementing giant projects within a few years.

 

Nasser valued the UfM member states' full trust in him, pledging to exert more efforts to achieve the region's progress and UfM's desired goals.

 

The UfM Secretary-General underlined the importance of the role played by the entity to bring closer the peoples of the two shores of the Mediterranean, strengthen cooperation and dialogue between them, as well as implementing projects and initiatives that would achieve our citizens' aspirations towards progress, development, stability, and integration.

 

Kamel was appointed Secretary-General of the UfM in June 2018. He is the 1st Egyptian to hold this position since the establishment of the UfM by Egypt and France in 2008.

 

He held many prominent positions including, Assistant Foreign Minister (FM), and Egypt's ambassador to France and the United Kingdom (UK).
