UEFA has issued a strong warning over the future of Italian football, raising concerns that political intervention could put at risk the country’s role in hosting UEFA Euro 2032 as well as the participation of its clubs in European competitions.

According to Corriere dello Sport, UEFA strongly opposes proposals in Italy to appoint an external commissioner to oversee the Italian Football Federation.

The idea has been discussed following a refereeing crisis and the resignation of several senior officials within the federation.

The report states that UEFA views any direct political interference in the governance of national football associations as a breach of its principle of independence.

It warned that such actions could have serious consequences, including jeopardizing Italy’s Euro 2032 hosting rights and potentially affecting its clubs’ participation in European tournaments.

UEFA has described the idea of a government-appointed administrator as a “red line,” stressing that football governance must remain free from external political control.

In response, discussions have taken place between senior football officials, including representatives of the Italian league, in an effort to ease tensions and prevent further escalation that could impact the long-term stability of Italian football on the international stage.
