The UEFA announced on Monday that it has imposed a €30,000 fine on English club Tottenham Hotspur FC due to what it described as “racist or discriminatory behavior” by supporters during their Champions League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt in January.
In an official statement, UEFA confirmed that its Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body also ordered Tottenham to ban the sale of away tickets to their supporters for one European match.
However, the sanction has been suspended for one year and will only be enforced if a similar offense occurs during the probationary period.
The governing body further imposed an additional €2,250 fine after some Spurs fans were found to have thrown objects during the match, which ended in a 2-0 victory for the English side.
UEFA reaffirmed its strict “zero tolerance” policy toward any racist or discriminatory conduct inside European stadiums, emphasizing that clubs bear full responsibility for the behavior of their supporters in continental competitions.
Tottenham are set to face Atlético Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16 later this month, in a highly anticipated encounter as the London club aims to continue its European campaign.
