On Friday, UEFA announced its final ruling regarding the participation of Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyon and English Premier League side Crystal Palace in European competitions for the 2025/2026.
UEFA has officially confirmed that Lyon will take part in the 2025–2026 UEFA Europa League, following the reversal of their relegation from France’s top tier.
In contrast, Crystal Palace were excluded from the Europa League and redirected to the UEFA Europa Conference League instead.
This decision is based on UEFA’s ownership regulations.
Businessman John Textor holds a significant stake in both clubs, violating UEFA's rules on competitive integrity.
The official statement noted that the ruling is subject to appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), in accordance with Articles 62 and 63 of UEFA’s statutes.
As a result of this act, Nottingham Forest is set to replace Crystal Palace in next season’s Europa League.
