The UEFA has announced a ban on Galatasaray supporters from attending their team’s upcoming away match against Liverpool FC in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

The decision comes after disciplinary proceedings were opened following crowd disturbances during Galatasaray’s previous European fixture against Juventus.

The return leg of that playoff tie was played in Turin on February 25, where Turkish supporters were reported to have thrown objects and ignited flares inside the stadium.

UEFA confirmed that the incidents prompted an investigation which resulted in official sanctions against the Turkish club.

Despite losing the second leg 3–2 in Turin, Galatasaray secured qualification to the Round of 16 with a 7–5 aggregate victory over Juventus.

The team is now set to face Liverpool, with the first leg scheduled to take place in Istanbul next Tuesday, while the return leg will be played at Anfield on March 18.

UEFA’s disciplinary measures include a ban on Galatasaray fans purchasing tickets for the away match in England, in addition to a €40,000 fine imposed on the club. Galatasaray has announced its intention to file an official appeal against the ruling.
