The United Arab Emirates issued a forceful condemnation on Thursday of what it called aggressive and provocative statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directed at the State of Qatar. In a formal statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the security and stability of Qatar are an indivisible part of the security and stability of the Gulf Cooperation Council, stressing that any threat against one Gulf state is a threat to the region’s collective security architecture.
Abu Dhabi rejected in full the Israeli rhetoric that carried future threats against Qatar, warning that such a confrontational approach jeopardizes prospects for de escalation and pushes the Middle East onto highly dangerous paths. The ministry underscored that regional security depends on restraint and respect for sovereignty, and that inflammatory language only deepens tensions at a critical moment.
Netanyahu had warned Qatar on Wednesday that it must either expel Hamas officials or bring them to justice, adding that if Qatar did not act Israel would. His warning followed a reported Israeli airstrike in Doha that targeted a residence used by Hamas leaders while a US backed ceasefire proposal for Gaza was under discussion.
