Two people were killed Tuesday morning in an explosion at a metal recycling factory in Ashdod, which authorities suspect was caused by a work accident.

Police said the two workers who were killed were a Turkish citizen and a Palestinian.

Israeli paramedics from Magen David Adom, Matan Cohen and Michael Erlichman, said they had found two men in their forties who were unconscious and without a pulse.

"After a medical examination, we were forced to declare their deaths," the paramedics said.

The paramedics added that they had treated another man, 35, at the scene for an injury to his leg.

"We put him on an ambulance and urgently evacuated him to the hospital while administering life saving treatment. He was in moderate condition, and was subsequently anesthesized," they said.

The search to find more workers in the factory during the incident is ongoing, the paramedics added.
