In a symbolic gesture marking the warming relations between Turkey and Egypt, the Turkish Navy’s TCG Sancaktar, an amphibious landing ship, docked at Alexandria Port this week carrying over 300 Turkish and international Naval Academy students.

The visit, described by Turkish Ambassador to Egypt Salih Mutlu Şen as a “reflection of shared traditions and mutual respect,” is part of a growing effort by Ankara and Cairo to rebuild diplomatic and military bridges.

“Our Commander and Dean visited the Egyptian Naval Forces Commander and explored Alexandria,” Ambassador Şen wrote in a statement shared on social media. “Our students will also tour Alexandria and Cairo.”

During his visit to the ship, Ambassador Şen emphasized the historical military ties between the two nations, describing them as “deep-rooted” and “inspired by mutual friendship and trust.” The ambassador also noted that this joint initiative could pave the way for greater collaboration in maritime security between the Turkish and Egyptian armed forces.

The ambassador extend his thanks to the Egyptian authorities for their warm hospitality and support for the ship, which is an indigenously made vessel.

"We will together shape a future inspired by these bonds, grounded in mutual respect, friendship, and trust, " Şen concluded.
