Turkish Football Federation president Ibrahim Hacıosmanoğlu has formally called on FIFA, UEFA, and global sports governing bodies to suspend Israel’s participation in all football-related activities.
In his letter, published by the Palestinian news agency Maan, Hacıosmanoğlu stressed that “football is a universal language that unites cultures and strengthens friendship and solidarity among peoples.”
He expressed deep concern over what he described as Israel’s “illegal and inhumane practices” in Gaza and the surrounding areas.
“The time has come for football institutions to act,” he wrote, criticizing the silence of international sports organizations.
“Although they claim to defend culture and peace, football bodies have remained quiet for too long.
It is time for FIFA and UEFA to take a decisive stance and immediately suspend Israel from all competitions.”
Meanwhile, British newspaper The Times reported that UEFA is expected to decide next week whether to suspend Israel’s membership in European football.
