Turkish Ambassador to Cairo Salih Mutlu Şen attended Tuesday a gala held in celebration of the remarkable achievement of the Egyptian team Pyramids FC.
On June 1, Pyramids won their first-ever African Champions League title after beating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in Cairo to secure a 3-2 aggregate win.
The win qualifies the team for both the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2025 and the FIFA Club World Cup 2029.
The event was attended by a number of sports stars, Pyramids players, and officials.
Şen took to social media to extend on his heartfelt congratulations to the Pyramids for their historical victory.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Şen was keen to congratulate “My dear friend, club president Mamdouh Eid, for this remarkable achievement,”.
He added, “I am also pleased to have supported the training camp program organized by the club in Türkiye, where the team played friendly matches against Turkish clubs,”.
“I had the pleasure of attending the gala held to celebrate Pyramids’ championship, in the presence of His Excellency the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Ashraf Sobhy,” he concluded.
Pyramids were formed in 2008 as Al Assiouty, but were renamed and moved to Cairo 10 years later after attracting investment from Saudi Arabia.
Their success continues the domination of the Champions League by Egyptian clubs, who have now won seven out of its past nine editions - with Al Ahly claiming six of those titles.
