The Tunisian national football team bid adieu to the Africa Cup of Nations 2023, currently underway in Côte d'Ivoire, after a stalemate with South Africa in their Wednesday evening match at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium. This draw concluded their campaign in the tournament's group stage.

The first half of the match saw a mediocre performance from both sides, with Tunisia, albeit having more control over the game's proceedings, failing to pose a significant threat to the South African goal.

The second half continued in the same vein, with the Tunisian side pushing to score the much-needed winning goal. However, the attempts of the Carthage Eagles fell short as they struggled to capitalize on their opportunities.

This outcome marks a significant setback for the Tunisian team, as it's the first time since the 2013 edition that they have failed to advance to the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations.

With this draw, Tunisia's tally in Group Five stopped at just two points, placing them fourth, while South Africa advanced to the second position with four points.

This result reflects a turning point in Tunisian football, highlighting the need for introspection and potential restructuring. Historically, Tunisia has been a strong contender in African football, with notable performances in previous editions of the tournament. Their exit from the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 at this early stage comes as a surprise to many fans and analysts who had high expectations from the North African team.
