U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stark ultimatum to Iran, saying Tehran has 48 hours to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face severe consequences.

In a post on social media, Trump warned that “time is running out,” adding that if Iran fails to act, “all hell will break loose.” He referenced a previous deadline he had given Iran to either reach an agreement or ensure the waterway remains open, describing the current moment as decisive.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes, making any disruption a major concern for global energy markets and international trade.

Trump’s remarks come shortly after he announced a temporary 10-day suspension of U.S. targeting of Iranian energy facilities, a move he said was made at Tehran’s request and set to last until early April.

In separate comments, Trump reignited controversy by suggesting that control over Iranian oil resources could be part of a broader strategy. He said that with more time, the United States could “easily open the Strait of Hormuz, take the oil, and generate enormous wealth,” framing the crisis in economic terms as well as military ones.

The statements have further escalated tensions in an already volatile region, with observers warning that any confrontation around the Strait of Hormuz could trigger widespread geopolitical and economic repercussions.
