US President Donald Trump arrived, on Sunday, at the demilitarised zone (DMZ) located between the two Koreas.

During his visit, Trump shook hands with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as they met at the DMZ.

After taking 18 steps into North Korea before stopping and turning back, Trump said: “stepping across that line was a great honor,” Los Angeles Times reported.

Trump said that it is "a great feeling" to be the first US president to set foot in North Korea, praising "the great friendship" with Kim. "It's a great day for the world," Trump told reporters at the DMZ.

Trump said that he and North Korean leader had “a good feeling” and “a good relationship”.

Meanwhile, Kim said: "If it wasn't for that good relationship, we would not have been able to make this sudden meeting possible”.

"We would like to make use of this meeting  to create more good news that nobody expects," the north Korean leader added.

He also expressed his desire to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries saying: “leave the past behind and move toward the future”.

Earlier, the US president expressed his desire to meet Kim Jong-un, at the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas.

On the other hand, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said, in talks with Trump on Sunday, that he will travel with the US president to the demilitarized zone.

"If Trump shakes hands with Kim Jong-un, on the demarcation line , it will be a great historic event," South Korean president said.

"It would set a significant milestone in the process of achieving complete denuclearisation and lasting peace on the Korean peninsula," Moon Jae-in added.
