Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, said that if America does not embrace cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin technology, it will be dominated by China and other countries.
Trump added, during the largest Bitcoin conference in the United States, that he wants cryptocurrencies to be mined in the United States, to ensure that it is the "crypto capital of the planet."
He continued: "I stand before you today filled with respect and admiration for what the Bitcoin community has achieved. It is truly amazing. If you want to compare Bitcoin, it is like the steel industry a hundred years ago, and I think you are still in the beginning of your understanding of its importance."
Trump said: "I will present my plan to ensure that the United States is the crypto capital of the planet and the Bitcoin superpower in the world, and if cryptocurrencies are going to define the future, I want them to be minted, minted and manufactured in our country."
Trump and potential Democratic candidate Kamala Harris are racing against time to win over the largest number of supporters before the presidential elections in November.
A Wall Street Journal poll released Friday showed Trump leading Harris, the current vice president, by 2 percentage points.
Trump leads Harris 49 percent to 47 percent, according to the poll of 1,000 registered voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
Trump had a 6-point lead in a poll earlier this month over President Joe Biden, who dropped out of the race days ago.
