Former US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he will not participate in the upcoming Republican primary debates set to begin this Wednesday.

Trump emphasized that Americans already know him well, and he sees no need for a public confrontation with any of his competitors in the race to the White House.

In a message posted on his "Truth Social" platform, Trump praised his highly successful record during his presidency, citing achievements such as energy independence, strong borders, a robust military, significant tax cuts, and a historically powerful economy.

He wrote in bold letters, " I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES.”

Trump also referred to the latest opinion poll published on Sunday. The poll, conducted by CBS News, indicates that 62 percent of respondents would vote for him despite facing four sets of charges this year.

Among these charges is an accusation of attempting to undermine American democracy by plotting to overturn the 2020 election results and remain in power despite losing to his opponent, Joe Biden.

According to the "CBS News" poll, Trump leads his closest competitor, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, by a margin of 46 percentage points.
