U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he will participate indirectly in the negotiations between Iran and the United States regarding Tehran’s nuclear program, which are scheduled to commence this Tuesday in Geneva.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump stated: "I will be participating in those talks indirectly. They are going to be very important."
Trump expressed his belief that Tehran is eager to reach an agreement.
He noted that while Iran has pursued "tough negotiations" in the past, they learned the consequences of such a hardline stance last summer when the United States struck Iranian nuclear sites.
Indicating that the Iranians now have a clear motive to negotiate, Trump added: "I don't think they want to [endure] the consequences of not making a deal."
