In a striking shift in tone on the Iranian nuclear file, U.S. President Donald Trump said that negotiations with Tehran have made “significant and unprecedented” progress, suggesting that a comprehensive agreement could be within reach.
In remarks carried by Agence France-Presse, Trump stated that Iran is now prepared to accept conditions it had previously rejected outright, describing the current prospects for a final deal as “highly optimistic.”
The U.S. president went further, asserting that Iran has agreed in principle not to pursue nuclear weapons and to hand over enriched uranium as part of a potential framework deal. If confirmed, such a concession would mark one of the most consequential developments in years of stalled nuclear diplomacy.
Trump also indicated that a high-level meeting with Iranian officials could take place as early as this weekend, adding that he would be willing to travel to Islamabad if the agreement were ultimately signed in Pakistan’s capital.
The comments come amid broader efforts to link diplomatic breakthroughs with global economic stability. Trump argued that a finalized agreement would contribute to lowering global oil prices, easing inflationary pressures and reducing the cost-of-living burden worldwide.
