U.S. President Donald Trump met with his national security team to review Iran’s latest proposal aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route at the center of rising regional tensions.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Trump was briefed on the Iranian proposal during a morning meeting, where officials discussed possible pathways to restore navigation through the strategic waterway. She noted that there are currently no confirmed updates regarding any mine-clearing operations in the strait.

According to reports, Iran has presented a new offer through mediators that links reopening the Strait of Hormuz to ending the ongoing conflict and lifting the naval blockade. The proposal is designed to break the current deadlock and restart negotiations between the parties.

The plan reportedly outlines a three-stage framework, beginning with a ceasefire and guarantees to prevent a return to hostilities. It also suggests postponing discussions related to Iran’s nuclear program in order to prioritize immediate de-escalation efforts.

So far, Washington has not issued an official response to the proposal. Iranian officials have indicated that maintaining oversight of the strait remains a key element of their position, underlining its strategic and economic significance.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most vital maritime corridors, handling a substantial share of global oil and gas shipments. Any disruption to traffic in the strait has immediate consequences for energy markets and international trade, making diplomatic progress on the issue closely watched worldwide.
