US President Donald Trump spoke on the phone with British Prime Minister (PM) Boris Johnson, where they have expressed their hope for an "ambitious free trade agreement" between the two countries.

The call took place days after Johnson’s Conservative Party won a remarkable majority in the British Parliament.

British PM spoke with Trump, who congratulated him on the result of the General Election, according to a statement issued by spokesman for the UK prime minister's office.

“They tackled the huge importance of the ties between the UK and US, and looked forward to continuing close cooperation on issues such as security and trade, including the negotiation of an ambitious free trade agreement,” the statement added.

Moreover, a White House spokesman said the two leaders “reaffirmed their commitment to further promoting cooperation on a range of issues, including the negotiation of a United States-United Kingdom free trade agreement.”
