U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday inked the founding charter of the newly established “Peace Council” during a ceremony in Davos, attended by a limited number of international leaders and representatives.

Trump formally unveiled the Peace Council as an international body intended to bring together what he described as “the world’s best leaders” from 59 countries, with the stated aim of promoting peace in the Middle East and overseeing developments in the Gaza Strip. He said the council has “the opportunity to become one of the most important entities ever created,” portraying the initiative as further evidence of his role as a peacemaker.

The announcement came a day after Trump appeared to scale back earlier threats related to Greenland, a move that added to the political significance of the Davos event.

Despite official expectations that representatives from around 35 countries would attend the signing ceremony, participation fell short, with delegates from fewer than 20 countries present. The event was also marked by a notable absence of many of Washington’s traditional allies in Western Europe, raising questions about the breadth of international support for the new initiative.

Trump did not provide detailed information on the council’s structure or mechanisms but said it would play a central role in maintaining stability and monitoring peace efforts in conflict areas, particularly Gaza.

The launch of the Peace Council comes amid heightened global diplomatic activity involving the United States, including discussions on the Middle East, Ukraine, and Iran, as Trump seeks to project an image of renewed American leadership on international peace and security issues.
