On Sunday, US President Donald Trump stated that he is committed to purchasing Gaza and taking ownership of it, suggesting that parts of the territory could be given to other Middle Eastern countries for development.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said, "I will turn Gaza into a prime location for future development."
He added, "I will take care of the Palestinians and make sure they are not killed."
Trump also mentioned that he would consider "individual cases of Palestinian refugees being allowed to enter the United States."
He confirmed plans to discuss the matter with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Trump's proposal for the U.S. to take control of Gaza and relocate its residents to neighboring countries. Returning from his visit to Washington, Netanyahu described the plan as "revolutionary."
