Former US President Donald Trump will hold a rally in Texas on Saturday to woo his far-right supporters as he seeks to boost a presidential campaign while facing criminal charges, in what has been billed as his first major campaign rally for the presidential race in a year. 2024.

Trump called on his supporters to gather at an airport in Waco, Texas.

Waco marks the 30th anniversary of a raid by federal agents on a religious community there that left 86 people dead, including four law enforcement personnel.

Some on the far right consider the raid a defining moment of government wrongdoing.

A Trump campaign spokesman said in an email that Waco was chosen because it is located between several major population centers and has the infrastructure to host a major event.

A series of ongoing criminal investigations pose a growing legal threat to Trump, including one in Manhattan related to an accusation that he gave porn star Stormy Daniels sums of money to buy her silence during his 2016 campaign for the White House.
