A passenger train traveling from Alexandria to Marsa Matrouh collided Sunday morning with an unlicensed transport vehicle attempting to cross the railway at an unauthorized point along Egypt’s northern coast.
In an official statement, the Egyptian National Railways said the accident occurred at 9:25 AM at kilometer 113 between El Alamein and Sidi Abdel Rahman stations, as Train No. 648/3954 (Moharam Bek – Marsa Matrouh) was en route.
According to the authority, the truck, which was not bearing metal license plates, was crossing the railway tracks from a location not designated for public passage when it was struck by the train. The impact threw the vehicle clear of the tracks.
The collision resulted in one fatality and left three others injured. Emergency services transported the injured to El Alamein Model Hospital for medical treatment.
Railway officials confirmed that the train resumed its journey at 9:37 AM, just 12 minutes after the incident, following necessary safety procedures.
The authority urged citizens and drivers to refrain from establishing or using illegal crossings on railway lines, warning that such practices pose grave risks to lives and disrupt train operations.
It stressed the importance of strictly using officially designated level crossings under the supervision of Egyptian National Railways to safeguard public safety and ensure the uninterrupted flow of rail services.
