The tourism influx to South Sinai governorate increased 30% after the UK lifting of the travel ban on Sharm El Sheikh in 2019, according to tourism officials.

Representatives of the Egyptian tourism sector said that they are optimistic about the coming winter season, Al Mal News reported on Wednesday.

Last Sunday, Sharm El Sheikh International Airport received the first two TUI flights, coming from Gatwick and Manchester airports, carrying nearly 380 passengers.

In the same context, Chairman of EgyptAir Ahmed Adel pointed out that the national carrier targets operating a direct flight between Sharm El Sheikh and London every Saturday as of February 29.

Meantime, Guevara al-Jafi, the president of the hotel establishments in South Sinai, said the arrival of the first charter flights from the UK is a good indicator for encouraging other countries to operate more flights to Egypt.

"The British market represents 35% of the number of tourists in South Sinai," Jafi noted, adding that Germany, Poland, and Italy increased their flights to the governorate after the UK decision.

On his part, Alaa Aqel, the head of the hotel establishments in South Sinai, stated that Sharm El Sheikh would receive two flights from the UK till May, adding that beginning from May, the number of flights would double to four.

"In October, the number of flights is expected to reach 20," Aqel added.
