Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons has suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee, ruling him out for an extended period and effectively ending his chances of participating in the upcoming World Cup with the Netherlands.
The club stated in an official announcement that the 23-year-old sustained the injury during the second half of their Premier League match against Wolverhampton, played last Saturday.
Medical examinations confirmed the severity of the injury, with Simons set to undergo surgery in the coming weeks, followed by a lengthy rehabilitation program under the supervision of the club’s medical staff.
Tottenham also confirmed their full support for the player throughout his recovery, stressing that the club will stand by him during all stages of treatment and his return to action.
This injury comes as a major setback for both the club and the player, who had been enjoying a strong season before his campaign was abruptly cut short.
