Jose Mourinho humiliated his old club as Tottenham swept its host Manchester United with six goals to one goal, in the fourth round of the Premier League.

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min each scored twice for Spurs while United's Anthony Martial was sent off in the 29th minute after he dragged his hand across Erik Lamela's face in reaction to an elbow in his neck.

Despite United took the lead with a goal from a penalty kick in the second minute by Bruno Fernandez, Spurs responded quickly taking advantage of some awful United defending scoring six goals, two goals by Son, Harry Kane, and one by each of Tanguy Ndombele and Serge Aurier.

Tonight's defeat is not only the heaviest defeat since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took temporary charge in December 2018, but also the largest United have suffered since Ed Woodward took over as executive vice-chairman in 2013, according to BBC.

After this match, United is 16th in the Premier League, with recently promoted Fulham and West Brom the only clubs with a worse goal difference.

Meanwhile, Tottenham moved up to fifth after emerging from a packed schedule of five games in 11 days in three competitions with four wins and a draw.

United lost 6-1 to Manchester City in October, 2011.
