Al Ahly officials have largely decided to retain Danish coach Jess Torup until the end of the current season, despite the shock of being eliminated from the CAF Champions League quarterfinals last Saturday by Tunisia's Esperance at Cairo Stadium.
The Al Ahly management had considered parting ways with Torup after the team's disappointing season, which saw them knocked out of the Egyptian Cup in the round of 32 by a second-division team (WE), and also exit the Cairo Cup despite fielding a large number of senior players. This was followed by the bitter Champions League exit at home against Esperance. However, the Al Ahly management ultimately decided against dismissing Torup due to the substantial compensation he would receive as a penalty clause.
After discussions within the Al Ahly management, the decision was made to keep Torup, especially given the limited time available to secure a suitable replacement. Furthermore, any new coach would need time to familiarize themselves with the players and the atmosphere of domestic competitions. The team faces six crucial matches in the Egyptian Premier League, starting on April 3rd against Ceramica.
