Torino handed AS Roma a heartbreaking 3–2 defeat on Tuesday evening at the Stadio Olimpico, eliminating them from the Round of 16 of the Coppa Italia and booking a fiery quarterfinal clash with Inter Milan next month.
Roma took the lead through Mario Hermoso and Antonio Arena, who scored in the 46th and 81st minutes respectively.
However, Torino responded strongly, with Che Adams scoring twice in the 52nd and 53rd minutes to bring his side back into the match.
In the 90th minute, Turkish midfielder Emirhan İlkhan struck a dramatic late winner for Torino, sealing a 3–2 victory and securing qualification for the quarterfinals.
Torino entered the match after advancing through two previous rounds, while Roma began their Coppa Italia campaign directly at this stage.
Roma have not lifted the Coppa Italia trophy for nearly 18 years and have failed to progress beyond the quarterfinals since 2017, despite reaching the finals of two European competitions in recent years.
Roma currently sit third in the Serie A standings and continue to compete for a return to the UEFA Champions League, as well as success in the UEFA Europa League.
