Games CEO Toshiro Muto said spike in coronavirus infections in Japan is not connected to the Tokyo Olympics, CNN reported.

The Tokyo Games itself, the number of infections is suppressed. But on the other hand, outside of the Games, the number of infection cases are increasing,” Muto said.

“How to analyze this, there are various different opinions. We are in line with their views. We take the same position.”

He cited Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga's statements that there was no link between the Olympic Games and the rise in COVID-19 cases in the country as capital Tokyo recorded 3,865 daily infections on Thursday which was more than 3,177 a day earlier.

The Tokyo Olympics organizing committee said 18 new coronavirus infection cases related to the Games have been confirmed on Saturday.

The latest tally brings the total number of infections connected with the Games to 259 since July 1, when the committee began announcing case numbers
