Marcus Thuram returned to scoring form for the France national football team after finding the net in a 3-1 victory over the Colombia national football team in an international friendly on Sunday.
Thuram scored France’s second goal, ending a lengthy international goal drought that dated back to November 2023 against Gibraltar national football team.
“I really needed this goal,” Thuram said after the match. “Playing for France is a big responsibility, and I always try to take every opportunity to prove myself.”
The goal comes during a difficult period for the striker at club level with Inter Milan, where he has not scored since January 11 and has managed just one goal in his last 15 appearances.
France’s win extended their unbeaten run to nine matches across all competitions, with eight victories and one draw, underlining the team’s strong form ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The team had also secured an impressive 2-1 win over the Brazil national football team earlier in the international break, reinforcing their status as one of the tournament favorites.
Head coach Didier Deschamps demonstrated the depth of his squad by rotating his lineup while maintaining performance levels. French outlet L'Équipe praised the team’s ability to perform with different combinations, noting that France possesses a strong alternative lineup.
Young talents also impressed, including Desire Doue, who scored his first two international goals, and Randal Kolo Muani, who contributed with a goal and an assist.
Meanwhile, Warren Zaire-Emery caught attention with a starting appearance at just 20 years and 21 days old, highlighting the emerging generation within the squad.
With a blend of experience and youth, France appear to be building strong momentum as they prepare for the upcoming World Cup, aiming to add another title to their history.
