German legend Thomas Müller opened his account for Vancouver Whitecaps in a dramatic way, scoring a stoppage-time penalty to seal a 3-2 victory over St. Louis City in Major League Soccer on Sunday morning.

The 34-year-old forward, who joined Vancouver this summer on a free transfer after ending his historic career at Bayern Munich, converted from the spot in the 104th minute to hand his new club three vital points.

The win lifted the Whitecaps to third place in the Western Conference with 49 points, trailing leaders San Diego (53) and Minnesota United (50).

Müller’s move to MLS came after Bayern Munich confirmed the end of his extraordinary 25-year journey with the club.

Since making his senior debut in 2008, Müller went on to play 756 matches, scoring 250 goals and providing 276 assists, while winning more than 30 trophies.

Now under contract with Vancouver until 2026, Müller expressed his excitement about starting a new chapter in North America:

“I’m happy to be here as a Whitecaps player. We want to build for the future, and the competition is still strong — so it’s about supporting the team and pushing forward,” Müller told fans after the match.
