"The Wedding Planner" Star Bridgette Wilson Diagnosed with Cancer

American actress and singer Bridgette Wilson has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

In a statement posted on the ATP Tour’s official social media account, her husband Tennis champ Pete Sampras shared a lengthy statement explaining that despite being typically a quiet and private person, he wanted to share the news of his wife’s diagnosis.

“As most have come to know, I am a pretty quiet and private person. However, this past year has been an exceptionally challenging time for my family and I have decided to share what’s been going on".

"Last December, my wife, Bridgette, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Since then, she has had major surgery, pushed through chemotherapy and continues with targeted maintenance therapy,”he stated.

Sampras went on to say “It is hard to watch someone you love go through a challenge like this.” However, the former tennis star says “Seeing our boys step up and be such strong supporters of Bridgette, myself and each other has been amazing,"

“Watching Bridgette continue to be an incredible mom and wife through it all, has been inspiring. I have also learned that it is very hard to reach for support when something is simply too hard to talk about. With that said, I will end this by humbly asking for good thoughts and prayers for our family as Bridgette continues to thrive on her healing journey,” the statement concluded.

The former Miss Teen USA wed Sampras in 2000 after dating for nine months. They have two sons, Christian, who was born in 2002, and Ryan, born in 2005.

Wilson-Sampras had her first feature lead role in "Billy Madison", in which she plays Veronica Vaughan, the love interest of Adam Sandler’s "Billy". Before that, she portrayed Ginger in four episodes of "Saved by the Bell", followed by a recurring role in "Santa Barbara". 

Her other credits include movies like "Mortal Kombat" (1995), "I Know What You Did Last Summer" (1997), and "The Wedding Planner" (2001), just to name a few.
