Dr. Mostafa El-Feki the Alexandria Library Director, revealed that Ethiopia exports goods to the world, but it is the weakest and poorest party; Ethiopia is really in need of development and no country opposes that.

However, they claim that Egypt is not permitting them to foster development- this is not true. Egypt do encourage development in Ethiopia but that should not affect its Nile water rights.

El-Feki explained that every country is exerting effort to maintain its interests, affirming the necessity of considering the country’s tenets regarding the nation’s water rights.

The Alexandria director also stressed Egypt’s rejection to any unilateral action that may violate its Nile water rights.

On other hand, the director praised that Egypt announced that it had filed a complaint to the UNSC ) warning of the consequences of Addis Ababa unilaterally controlling River Nile water. This is because the Arab country faces an existential threat due to Ethiopia’s keenness to fill the reservoir.

Noteworthy, GERD talks between Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia have stalled following Ethiopia’s announcement that it will begin filling the dam’s reservoir during the rainy season, which begins in July, regardless reaching a deal.

Meanwhile, the Arab League has renewed its support for Egypt in the ongoing tensions with Ethiopia over the construction of GERD. It stressed that Egypt's water security is part of Arab national security.

Also, during an extraordinary summit of Ministers of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, the Arab League agreed on nine articles under Resolution 8524. The resolution rejects any unilateral Ethiopian moves that could affect the water rights of downstream nations.
