“The Northman” Gets Digital Release Date

Critically acclaimed American director Robert Eggers‘s new movie “The Northman” is coming to streaming shortly after its May theatrical release.

It will be available on Digital on June 6 or on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on June 7.

The movie takes place in 10th-century Iceland and features Alexander Skarsgård as prince Amleth, who goes on a mission to avenge his father who was brutally murdered by his uncle and had kidnapped his mother.

Two decades later, Amleth is now a Viking who raids Slavic villages. He soon meets a seeress who reminds him of his vow: save his mother, kill his uncle, and avenge his father.

Fans who purchase the movie will also be treated to exclusive bonus content and features including deleted and extended scenes.

Eggers will also be reuniting with the stars of his two previous movies for "The Northman". "The Witch"’s Anya Taylor-Joy and "The Lighthouse"’s Willem Dafoe.

"The Northman" is the third feature movie by the director. His first movie, "The Witch", was an instant classic for horror fans. His second movie, "The Lighthouse", was a critical success and was nominated for an Academy Award.

Eggers co-wrote the movie with Icelandic novelist and screenwriter Sjón.

It also features Ethan Hawke, Nicole Kidman, Björk, Claes Bang, Murray McArthur, Ian Gerard Whyte, Kate Dickie, Hafpór Júlíus Björnsson, and Ralph Ineson.

Eggers also co-wrote the movie along with the Icelandic novelist and poet Sjón.

The movie was critically acclaimed during its initial release in theaters on May 28 and currently sits with a certified fresh rating of eighty-nine percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
