The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Chairman of the Muslim Council of ‎Elders Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, says that The mental and moral preparation, as well as the ability to take on the responsibility of a family, are the criteria set by Islam for young people who are interested in getting marri

He added: The Prophet (PBUH) advised men to choose their wives on the basis of religiosity and morals. When this is coupled with beauty or wealth, then that is a blessing from Allah, but in the absence of such features, religion alone suffices. Likewise, beauty should not be the only factor that drives a man to marry a woman.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam, added: The Prophet (peace be upon him) warned of the danger of marrying a woman solely for her wealth due to the serious consequences that may arise from such a decision

Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam, says: The Prophet (PBUH) advised to seek a spouse who possesses religious qualities, as beauty and wealth are short-lived and can become a cause of familial misery and destruction. Likewise, a religiously qualified spouse is essential for the well-being of the family. And Islam allows the engaged couple to see and get to know each other in the presence of family members in order to cultivate feelings of love and affection between them.
